There is a significant amount of progressive theology being advocated here that I simply do not concur with. However, I was well aware of this fact before delving into this book.

If you identify as an evangelical Christian and are unable to extract something of value from an author who holds beliefs divergent from your own, then this book is most definitely not for you.

That being stated, this is without a doubt the single finest book I have ever perused regarding manhood. I firmly believe that every man ought to read this.

Rohr expounds upon numerous reasons why men encounter difficulties in "growing up" and leading a life centered around others. He enumerates five essential truths that men must come to terms with: Life is arduous. You are not of utmost importance. Your life is not solely about you. You are not in complete control. You are going to die.

These truths, while perhaps uncomfortable, are crucial for men to understand in order to achieve true maturity and live a life that is fulfilling and meaningful.

I took a relatively longer time to complete this book. The main reason is that I truly desired to savor every single word and idea within it.

It is a book that is of such great value that it is well worth reading not just once, but repeatedly. The wisdom it contains is something that I was not even aware that I needed until I delved into its pages.

I am extremely grateful to Fr. Rohr for having written this remarkable book. His insights and teachings have had a profound impact on me, and I believe that they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

This book has become a source of inspiration and guidance for me, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them.

I found myself deeply pondering this particular matter, and it led to a significant shift in the way I perceived myself and the people around me.

As I was engaged in this contemplation, I decided to listen to a tape of Rohr and Paula D'Arcy on spirituality for the two halves of life. The combination of reading and listening had a profound impact on me.

The ideas presented in the tape seemed to blend seamlessly with my own thoughts, creating a unique and thought-provoking experience. It made me realize that our understanding of spirituality and life can evolve and expand as we journey through different stages.

This new perspective has opened my eyes to the complexity and beauty of human existence, and I am now more eager than ever to explore and embrace the spiritual aspects of my own life and the lives of those around me.

This is something that I can draw a parallel to C. Pinkola Estes' "Women who run with the wolves", but just in the masculine world.

It is beautifully written. I guess the compressed form is something that emerges straight from the masculine world, and I'm happy it does.

As a single mom of two boys, I am very, very respectful of the Inner Realms and spirituality of men in general. There really aren't so many wise and deep books that you can just open and read like this one, from beginning to the end.

I feel privileged to look into such wisdom, and the feeling of the Presence, the Spirit, and the very intimate and personal story about how men grow into The Men, and how youngsters grow into the Men. The rites of passages I found are not only exclusive to men but very human in essence. The struggles and faith, the close connection with their (bad) fathers. And after (or before) all, the Everlasting presence of their Heavenly Father who lets men (and us all) transcend it all into the pure Love, Strength, and Wisdom.

This book offers a unique perspective on the masculine journey, filled with profound insights and moving narratives that touch the heart and soul. It is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding the inner world of men and the universal themes of growth, transformation, and spiritual connection.

I have a rather complex relationship with Rohr's books, which can be described as a love/hate one, and this particular book was no different.

A significant portion of it consists of repeated material from his earlier work on male spirituality titled "From Wild Man to Wise Man." I truly wish I had read this one first and skipped the other, as this book is more comprehensive and captivating.

However, since I had recently read "Wild Man," I found a large part of "Adam's Return" to be rather dull.

Nevertheless, there are indeed some remarkable insights within this book. Even so, I also felt that, similar to much of Rohr's work, many of the book's insights are somewhat superficial and could be enhanced by adding more depth and substance.

All things considered, it is still a good book on the subject of male spirituality.

I appreciated and generally agreed with the main point that I think the author was trying to get across.

We’ve lost something as a western culture by not having formal initiations or rights of passage, especially for boys / males.

However, I really struggled with his delivery and some of the seeming side tangents.

If he was sensing we’ve gone too far in one direction and is taking an extreme in the opposite direction to get us to moderate towards the middle, that would be good enough.

But he never says that, so I worry that many would read it as a call to move (back) to something positively medieval.

He makes the claim over and over that men need to be “shocked” into realizing five hard truths, but without any evidence other than it seems we used to do it and it used to work.

He doesn’t offer anything in the way of suggestions for safeguards to avoid the abuses of power that was some of the cause for initiation to pass on, nor does he dispel any of the toxic traits of those rights.

I’m sympathetic to the diagnosis that we could do better by our boys - just not sure this has much to offer by way of a helpful prescription.

Freaking epic!

He masterfully illuminates the flaws and shortcomings that exist within our culture. Moreover, he does so by drawing on a plethora of cultures that have spanned over millennia. This approach provides a unique and comprehensive perspective.

The book is both sobering and simultaneously encouraging. It makes us confront the less-than-ideal aspects of our own culture, yet at the same time, it offers hope and inspiration through the insights gained from other cultures.

Overall, this is truly one of the best books I’ve read. It has the power to make us think deeply about our culture and the world around us, and it leaves a lasting impression. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in exploring different cultures and gaining a better understanding of our own.

Good overall.

It really shoots straight when it comes to boys becoming men. The author, Richard, seems to have a deep understanding of this process.

I also found it very interesting just how much of what Richard says will happen ended up happening (from the time it was written until this review).

It's almost as if he had a crystal ball and could foresee the future.

Perhaps this is because his insights are based on years of experience and observation.

Whatever the reason, it makes for a fascinating read.

The book doesn't shy away from the difficult topics, such as the challenges that boys face as they grow up and the importance of having positive role models.

It also offers practical advice on how to navigate these challenges and become a better man.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the topic of boys and men.

By carefully reading and reflecting on his words, one can gain valuable insights and perspectives that can expand one's knowledge and understanding.
