Ambition is another prominent theme, as Millay strived to make a name for herself in the world of poetry. The contrast between selfishness/freedom and dependency in romantic relationships is also explored, showing the challenges she faced in her personal life. Her unwavering devotion to writing and poetry is evident throughout the book, as is her bohemian lifestyle. Additionally, the theme of love for home and country versus restlessness and the expat life is a fascinating one.

I truly believe that Millay lived life to the fullest, for better or for worse. She squeezed every last drop of juice out of her experiences, and it makes for a captivating read. The time period in which she lived, from 1852 to 1950, was also an incredibly interesting one, filled with social and cultural changes. Overall, this biography is a must-read for anyone interested in Millay's life and work, or in the history of the early 20th century.

I understand that it was a significant concern and perhaps even an obsession for a large part of her life.

But I firmly believe that the book could have been approximately 100 pages shorter if the accounting aspects had been edited more tightly.

Additionally, Milford inserts herself and her evaluations into the story at rather odd moments, which felt quite jarring to me.

I was determined to complete the book as I desired the whole story.

But at a certain point, it began to feel like I was held hostage.

I suppose my final conclusion would be:

The book is very well researched, but unfortunately, it is not at all well edited.

I picked up a book with great anticipation, eager to embark on an exciting literary journey.

However, as I delved into its pages, I quickly realized that it was not what I had hoped for.

The story progressed at a snail's pace, and the plot seemed to drag on without any real excitement or momentum.

The writing style was also rather dull, failing to capture my attention or engage my imagination.
