God bless eBay!

You can truly discover things that you never even imagined existed!

The Watership Down Film Picture Book has now become my new favorite find on eBay.

As the title clearly indicates, this book contains incredibly beautiful stills from the 1978 animated movie, along with blocking text by Richard Adams, the author of the heroic fantasy novel of the same name.

Richard Adams sums up the differences between the film and the novel in the preface.

He says, "A film is not a book. They are two distinct forms of art; and people who, when asked whether they have read a particular book, reply 'No, but I saw the film,' might really just as sensibly answer, 'No, but I had breakfast this morning.'"

These words couldn't be truer.

As a HUGE Watership Down fan, I have read the book and watched the movie multiple times.

Both art forms are wonderful and highly engrossing.

The Watership Down Film Picture Book is not so much a mixture of the two, but rather a book with enough substance to stand alone.

Although Richard Adams' words are present in the book, they can't even come close to the enchanting descriptions in his original novel.

Watership Down is an epic novel, with a captivating portrayal of a group of rabbits' search for a safe new home.

It would have been impossible to include the entire novel in the movie or in this picture book.

Keeping that in mind, I of course adored this book!

Given such a fantastic novel and such an enchanting movie, how could this picture book be anything less than excellent?!

If you ever have the opportunity and can find this book, you should definitely check it out (after, of course, reading the original Watership Down and watching the film).

I can envision myself taking this book off my shelf and reading it over and over again.

I am so delighted that I found it!

Used bookstores have a charm that is truly irresistible to me. The act of browsing through the shelves, not knowing what treasures might lie hidden within, is an adventure in itself. It's in these stores that I often stumble upon something completely unexpected, something I never knew existed but suddenly find myself desperate to own.

This particular book is a collection of screencaps from the animated movie, accompanied by brief text from Richard Adams to provide context. The images, while not always of the highest quality - some are rather dark, making it a bit challenging to pick out details - still manage to add a wonderful touch to the library of any fan of the book and/or movie. What makes it truly fascinating is the conjunction of the two mediums, with introductions from both the author and the director, and a combination of Adams' words and the film's visuals.

Adams' introduction is refreshingly honest. He expresses his appreciation for the movie, acknowledges the necessary changes made for its different pacing and storytelling style, admits that Fiver wasn't drawn as he had imagined, and offers the advice to view the movie and the book as separate and equally enjoyable experiences.

The director's text is equally engaging and helps to shed light on what went wrong with the recent remake. (This book holds a special place in my heart as one of my all-time favorite nostalgic reads. However, I couldn't bring myself to watch past the second episode of the new show.) Rosen explains that one of the initial challenges they faced was the appearance of the animals. To the untrained eye, one rabbit looks much like another...

It's a pity that the remake's director didn't heed these words before settling on an animation style that was so lackluster, boring, and indistinct that I had trouble following the action, despite my love for the characters and familiarity with the story.

This book serves as a wonderful reminder of what it means to truly love and understand the source material and adapt it in a way that feels both appropriate and unique. Like the film, it doesn't shy away from the darkness and violence that exists in this world of rabbits. It's a great addition to my collection, and I'm extremely pleased that I discovered it tucked away in a bookcart.

This book is a remarkable compilation of film stills from the classic movie 'Watership Down' (1978).

It features not only the stunning visuals captured in the movie but also a touch of added text by the book author Richard Adams himself. This additional text allows readers to easily follow the film's story.

One of the great joys of this book is being able to simply marvel at the beautiful artwork presented in the stills. It gives a vivid sense of how truly gorgeous and exceptional the movie really is.

However, it's important to note that while this book offers a unique perspective and a chance to relive some of the movie's highlights, it can never truly substitute for either the original novel or the actual movie experience.

Each medium - the novel, the movie, and this book of stills - has its own charm and value, and together they form a more complete understanding and appreciation of the wonderful world of 'Watership Down'.

A beautifully illustrated book is based on the movie The Watership Down. However, the small amount of text in it makes it difficult for readers to engage deeply with the book. Instead, it gives the book a somewhat cartoony feel.

The illustrations in the book are really nice and detailed, which can bring the story to life visually. But the lack of sufficient text means that some of the nuances and depth of the original story might be lost.

Despite this, the book can still be an enjoyable read for those who are fans of the movie or who simply appreciate good illustrations. It can also be a great introduction to the story for younger readers who might not be able to handle a more text-heavy book.

Overall, while the book has its limitations in terms of text, it still has its own charm and can be a worthwhile addition to any book collection.

I carefully took apart this ancient specimen.

The glue used was of poorer quality than the illustrations.

It seemed that over time, the adhesive had deteriorated, causing the pages to come apart easily.

The illustrations, on the other hand, were still quite remarkable.

They depicted scenes and details that gave a fascinating glimpse into the past.

Despite the issue with the glue, I was still able to appreciate the beauty and historical value of this item.

It was as if I was holding a piece of history in my hands.

I wonder how many people had handled this specimen before me and what stories it could tell.

Perhaps one day, it will be restored and preserved for future generations to enjoy.

Until then, I will continue to study and explore its mysteries.

I came across this article

because of the film. It was the old one, not the BBC version.

To my surprise, I really enjoyed reading it.

It turned out to be quite an easy read as well.

The language used was simple and straightforward, making it accessible to a wide range of readers.

The story was engaging and held my attention from start to finish.

I found myself getting lost in the world created by the author.

Even though I had already seen the film, the article offered a different perspective and added more depth to the story.

It was interesting to see how the author had developed the characters and the plot.

I would highly recommend this article to anyone who enjoys a good read, whether or not they have seen the film.

It's a great way to spend some time and get lost in a different world.

While attempting to determine if there could be a more suitable offering for my niece than the Netflix-based one, I discovered this book. I was thrilled to see the film art compiled in one place. However, it's unfortunate that this book still won't convince my sister to purchase it or the film. She believes that the overall presentation is overly whitewashed compared to the original story format.

Anyway, "The Watership Down Film Picture Book" combines the two formats. The actual author, Richard Adams, has added writing from the original book to complement the stills taken from the 1978 film. Regrettably, and in order to maintain its essence as a picture book, the text is at most brief and merely serves as captioning for the stills, rather than providing an in-depth look into the writing of "Watership Down" that has captured the imaginations of fans since the book's publication.

The book is somewhat awkwardly large, but this allows the stills to be enlarged, enabling the book to function as a coffee table book. Simultaneously, due to the size of the photographs, the reader also has the opportunity to study the beautiful and sometimes eerie details that were incorporated into the film, such as the hand-painted scenery or the ghost bunnies.

This book would make an excellent gift if you can locate it for those who are fans of the original book and/or for those who simply enjoy the film or film art in general.
