Ever came home after a few years? Got that unsettling feeling that maybe, just maybe, you've walked into someone else's purgatory? A place where people are full of hate, mean drunks roam around, and old secrets seem to be eating everyone alive? And then think: "Well, let's see if there's corn outside"? It's a strange situation indeed. As you stand there, looking around, you can't help but wonder how things have changed so much. The once familiar streets now seem foreign, and the people you used to know are now strangers. But perhaps, just perhaps, the sight of that corn outside might bring a glimmer of hope, a reminder of the simple things in life that still remain the same.

Sam Shepard is truly one of those remarkable actors who leaves an indelible impression on you.

I have always held a deep admiration for him as an actor. However, I was rather surprised to learn that he perceives himself more as a writer and director.

He has an extensive body of work in writing, including this particular play.

This play is a masterful piece that leaves a great deal unsaid, thereby creating a highly disturbing and mysterious mood.

It is only towards the end that you are finally able to piece together all the significant elements that were never explicitly stated but can now be clearly seen and understood.

Shepard's ability to craft such a complex and thought-provoking work is truly a testament to his talent as a writer and director.

His unique vision and approach to storytelling make his plays a must-see for anyone interested in the art of theater.

Overall, Sam Shepard is a multi-faceted artist whose work continues to captivate and inspire audiences around the world.

Another outstanding play crafted by Shepard. Once more, it delves into the theme of America, specifically set in the Midwest near vast cornfields. The ensemble of characters serves as a veritable paradise for actors. My personal favorite is Tilden, who formerly held a promising future but now finds himself in a state of semi-craziness. The family is purported to represent any typical American family, highlighting how the American dream is often just an illusion. Every single character is scarred, some physically, while others bear the marks of mental and emotional trauma.

There are two significant secrets, with one of them buried right in the back yard. Vince, Tilden's younger brother, arrives with his girlfriend, Shelly, for a visit. She acts as the catalyst that pries open all the festering wounds and hidden secrets.

Surrealism and symbolism are abundant throughout the play. Just like in all of Shepard's works, the language is both realistically grounded and yet surrealistically dreamlike, and it is simply gorgeous. However, I will refrain from revealing any spoilers here.
