Salinger has yet another wonder to offer, and I'm specifically referring to the first story in this volume. It has seemed to me to be one of the most beautiful tales I've ever read! And after this, there's not much more I can say. It's a bit in the vein of "Franny and Zooey", a book I read not long ago and which left me amazed. Everything is so small and anecdotal, and yet at the same time so immense!! Is this possible? And the presence of Seymour, who doesn't physically appear in the story, is so intense. He is the protagonist of the tale and we will only know about him through the other characters and a couple of "incredible" snippets from his diary. Truly, it's a wonder. That hot wedding day in New York, that groom who doesn't show up, that small car journey, that short and disquieting man, that apartment of the Glass brothers, that pitcher of refreshing Tom Collins, that bathroom, that diary... Truly: a gem! A precious thing!

The second story strikes me as a bit more inaccessible. It has been more difficult for me to read and I haven't quite been able to feel it: it has seemed a bit inhospitable to me, probably for much more advanced readers than I am.

Raise High... was an incredibly amusing and interesting short story. It vividly depicted a group of wedding guests engaging with each other on a sweltering summer afternoon. The interactions were full of life and charm, making it a delightful read. However, it was a great pity that it was paired with Seymour. This latter story was a long-winded one, seemingly written in a stream-of-consciousness style that was a complete bore. It felt as if I was seated next to a stranger on an airline flight who just wouldn't stop talking. It made me almost reluctant to finish the entire book. The contrast between the two stories was so stark that it really affected my overall reading experience.
