I am truly impressed by Kelley Armstrong's remarkable ability to adapt her writing style to perfectly match the character she is penning. It's a feat that not many authors can achieve with such finesse. However, to my disappointment, this particular book failed to meet my expectations. I suspect it might be due to the fact that I don't have the same affinity for Elena's character as I do for the other Women of the Otherworld. Additionally, the story line seemed rather predictable, lacking the element of surprise that usually keeps me on the edge of my seat.
Given that Elena used to be a reporter, I find it quite puzzling why she didn't pick up on the obvious clues during their investigation. It seems rather out of character for someone with her background. Moreover, I'm also somewhat disturbed by how little she appears to be in tune with her own body. How on earth can a woman's husband not only feel but also see their baby kick before the mother does? It just doesn't seem right.
On a more positive note, there was a new character introduced in this book who I really liked a lot. I sincerely hope that she makes an appearance in future books. I do wish that Jamie and Jeremy would finally hook up already. Their relationship has been building up for so long, and I'm eager to see how it will develop.
