Play a life game.

Imagine yourself in this game of life. You have various choices and experiences that come your way.

Now, think about the book "Letters and Other Worlds". How many times and in what places will you have the opportunity to read it?

Maybe it could be on a cozy Sunday morning, curled up on the sofa with a cup of coffee. Or perhaps during a long flight, when you have nothing else to do but immerse yourself in the story.

It could also be in a quiet corner of a library, surrounded by the smell of old books and the soft rustle of pages turning.

The possibilities are endless. The number of times you read the book and the places where you do so will all contribute to the unique and personal experience of engaging with this literary work.

So, as you play this life game, keep an open mind and see where the journey takes you in relation to "Letters and Other Worlds".

Another one where I liked some but not all.

It's a bit of a mixed bag, really. There are certain aspects that truly appeal to me, while others leave me a bit indifferent.

However, Ondaatje in general has this magical effect on me that makes my heart beat really fast.

His writing style is so unique and captivating, it draws me in and keeps me hooked from the very first page.

Even when I don't love every single part of his work, there's always something in it that makes it worthwhile.

Maybe it's his ability to create such vivid and memorable characters, or his use of language to paint beautiful and evocative scenes.

Whatever it is, I can't get enough of Ondaatje and I'm always eager to see what he comes up with next.

A beautiful collection of Ondaatje's poetry awaits. The original cover features this very image, yet with a far superior font. For those of us who are particular about such details, and I most certainly am, it makes a significant difference. This collection is a treasure trove of literary gems that I find myself continuously rereading. Each poem is like a precious stone, shining with its own unique light and charm. I can't help but share these wonderful poems from this collection with others. It's a way to spread the beauty and inspiration that Ondaatje's words bring. Whether it's a quiet moment of reflection or a lively discussion with friends, these poems have the power to touch hearts and minds.

It seems that Ondaatje arrived in Canada from Sri Lanka in 1962 as if a prince was returning home. In his earlier works, he accurately captures the spirit of the times and propels pop culture forward with his eloquent words (or pen), simply creating hits.

This collection, which contains works from The Dainty Monsters (1963 - 67), Rat Jelly (1967 - 73), and Pig Glass (1973 - 78), like the works of many young male poets, is filled with macho sexual tension, anger, and awakening. This is great, even if it's not something entirely new.

Here is a favorite, although by no means representative of the wide range of language included:

"RAT JELLY

See the rat in the jelly

steaming dirty hair

frozen, bring it out on a glass tray

split the pie four ways and eat

I took great care cooking a treat for you

and though it looks good to you

and though it still smells of the Westinghouse

and tastes of exotic fish or maybe the expensive arse of a cow

I want you to know it's rat

steamy and dirty hair and still alive

(caught him last Sunday

thinking of the fridge, thinking of you"
