I have a great passion for reading books, especially those that are filled with mysteries.

On an elephant's eleventh birthday, I would love to immerse myself in such a captivating book.

The idea of exploring the unknown and uncovering hidden secrets within the pages of a mystery novel is truly enticing.

I can imagine sitting in a quiet corner, completely engrossed in the story, as the words unfold and take me on a thrilling adventure.

The anticipation of what lies ahead, the twists and turns in the plot, and the challenge of solving the mystery all contribute to the excitement.

Reading this book on the elephant's special day would add an extra layer of significance and make the experience even more memorable.

It would be a wonderful way to celebrate and lose myself in a world of mystery and intrigue.

When I was a child, I always found it extremely difficult to figure out certain things. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't seem to get to the bottom of it.

After numerous attempts and a great deal of frustration, I finally gave up. In a moment of defeat, I resorted to reading the spoilers in the back. Lol.

However, despite my initial struggle, I have to admit that the pictures associated with the story were truly absorbing. They had a certain charm and allure that drew me in and kept my attention.

Even though I knew the outcome from reading the spoilers, the pictures still managed to hold my interest and make me appreciate the story in a different way.

Looking back, I realize that sometimes giving up and taking a different approach can lead to unexpected discoveries and enjoyments.

And those captivating pictures will always remain in my memory as a unique and valuable part of my childhood reading experience.

Beautiful rhyming and artwork

Beautiful rhyming has the power to transport us to another world. It engages our senses and makes us feel emotions we may not have otherwise felt. The rhythm and flow of the words create a musical quality that is both pleasing and memorable.

Artwork, on the other hand, allows us to express our creativity and imagination. It can be in the form of paintings, sculptures, or any other medium. Through art, we can communicate our thoughts and feelings in a way that words alone cannot.

Together, beautiful rhyming and artwork can create a truly magical experience. They can inspire us, make us laugh, or even bring us to tears. Whether we are reading a poem or looking at a painting, we are able to connect with the artist on a deeper level and appreciate the beauty and talent that went into creating it.

In conclusion, beautiful rhyming and artwork are two of the most wonderful things in life. They add color and meaning to our world and allow us to express ourselves in ways that are both unique and powerful. So the next time you come across a beautiful poem or piece of art, take a moment to stop and appreciate it. You never know what kind of impact it may have on you.

I had the wonderful opportunity to teach a class on Sherlock Holmes for our home school co-op.

As an engaging exercise in observation and deduction, we delved into the study of this captivating book. The aim was for the students to earn their Junior Sherlockian certificates from the Beacon Society.

Over a period of 6 weeks, 24 kids from 4th, 5th, and 6th grade participated. It was truly amazing to see their dedication. They were determined to solve the crime without cheating and by cracking the puzzles.

I provided them with some "data" to assist them in their investigations. This included discussions on morse code, pig pen ciphers, hieroglyphics, and other such elements. I knew they would need to have at least a basic familiarity with these in order to solve the puzzles successfully.

I introduced these concepts prior to presenting the book, ensuring that the students were aware of their existence. This way, when they encountered something familiar in the text, it would trigger their memory and aid them in their deductions.

I simply cannot praise this book highly enough. The class was an enormous success, and both the kids and their parents are now eagerly anticipating more Holmes adventures. It doesn't get any better than that!

I've been truly surprised in revisiting Base's work.

As a child, I had a certain affection and admiration for it.

However, now that I'm looking at it again, I find that my feelings have changed.

I no longer like it in the same way I did before.

Perhaps it's because my perspective has broadened with age and experience.

Maybe the things that once appealed to me as a child no longer hold the same charm.

It's interesting how our tastes and preferences can evolve over time.

This realization has made me reflect on how much I've grown and changed since those early days of enjoying Base's work.

It also makes me wonder what other aspects of my childhood favorites might no longer resonate with me.

Nevertheless, this experience has been a valuable one, teaching me that our relationship with art and creativity can be fluid and subject to change.

It was such a fun read with my boys! The moment we opened the book, we were immediately drawn in by the captivating illustrations. They are so rich and detailed that every page seems to tell a story of its own. The boys couldn't take their eyes off the pictures, and they were constantly pointing out new details and asking questions. It was a great way to engage them and spark their imagination. As we read through the text, they were fully immersed in the story, laughing and gasping at the appropriate moments. This book has truly become a favorite in our household, and we can't wait to read it again and again. It's not just a book, but a wonderful experience that we can share together as a family.

While I'm constantly blown away by Base's artwork,

which is so intricate and detailed that your eyes don't know where to look.

However, I have to say this book was a letdown on several levels.

The biggest issue is that it's presented as a mystery that you have to solve, but you aren't informed that it's a mystery until the crime occurs.

As a result, you are never really aware of the things you should have been on the lookout for.

I would have understood if the crime had been committed earlier in the story.

But for me, it just didn't work.

And then when I read about the clues, I couldn't help but laugh because I didn't think they were particularly excellent.

Kids and adults might have different opinions and love this book, but I didn't enjoy it much.

Base hasn't been one of my favorites while reading hundreds of picture books this year.

He's unique, but not in a way that leaves a positive and lasting impression on me.

My rating for this book is 2/5.

The Eleventh Hour is a captivating tale of mystery that immediately draws the reader in.

The main character, Horace, excitedly decides to throw a grand party for his 11th birthday. The chosen theme is a thrilling costume masquerade, which adds an element of excitement and anticipation.

However, as the party is about to begin, Horace makes a shocking discovery - all the food is mysteriously gone! Shocked and determined, he sets out to solve the mystery of who dunnit.

The story is not only engaging but also beautifully illustrated, with each page bringing the characters and the setting to life. The use of rhymes throughout the text adds a musical quality and makes it a joy to read aloud.

I firmly believe that this book has the power to create a sense of wonder in whoever reads it. It sparks the imagination and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, eager to find out what happens next.

In a classroom setting, this book would be an absolute delight. With a masquerade theme, it would add a touch of fun and mystery to the learning environment. I would recommend using this book for older elementary school students, specifically in the 3rd to 5th grades.

To further engage the students, I would have them create predictions about what they think will happen next on little paper masquerade masks. This hands-on activity would not only encourage them to think critically but also allow them to express their creativity.

Incorporating mystery books like The Eleventh Hour in the classroom is essential, especially when teaching skills such as making inferences and predictions. It helps students develop their analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Moreover, using a book written in rhyme is highly beneficial as it exposes students to different styles of writing. It broadens their literary horizons and shows them that stories can be told in unique and creative ways.

Overall, The Eleventh Hour is a wonderful book that combines mystery, adventure, and beautiful illustrations. It has the potential to make learning fun and engaging for students of all ages.
