Great read!

It truly helps you understand mental illness to a greater extent. By delving into the subject matter, it allows you to develop more compassion for those who are dealing with certain disorders.

It also makes you appreciate the family members who unwaveringly refuse to give up on their loved ones.

This is not just any ordinary book. It is a valuable addition to my collection, and I have no intention of trading or donating it.

I will cherish this book for the insights it provides and the emotions it evokes.

It serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding and supporting those who are affected by mental illness.

Overall, it is a remarkable piece of literature that I would highly recommend to others.

This novel was truly outstanding.

Ms. Campbell's writing was both eloquent and precise as she delved into a world that is often overlooked or stigmatized - that of Black folks and mental health.

She explored in great depth the frustration that comes with not immediately understanding what is happening to a loved one. The process of conducting research, obtaining medical information, and collaborating with medical facilities to address this challenge can be extremely daunting.

However, we do our utmost to provide the best possible care for those we love, especially when it is a child in need of help.

This is a fantastic book that offers valuable insights and perspectives.

We really miss Bebe Moore Campbell, and may she rest in peace.

Her work will continue to have a profound impact on readers and contribute to the important conversation about mental health within the Black community and beyond.

They say you shouldn't start a book with a character thinking, and "72 Hour Hold" clearly demonstrated why.

At first, I had to exert a great deal of effort to fully immerse myself in this novel. However, as I delved deeper, I found myself increasingly moved.

This is a poignant story that explores the themes of sickness and a mother's unwavering and unconditional love for her child. The author does an excellent job of portraying the complex emotions and challenges faced by the characters.

Nevertheless, the novel does have one notable flaw, which is the presence of stereotypes. While the author may be attempting to shatter one particular black stereotype, she unfortunately keeps the majority of them intact. This can be a bit disappointing and may detract from the overall impact of the story for some readers.

Despite this flaw, "72 Hour Hold" is still a worthwhile read that offers a touching and thought-provoking exploration of important themes.

I found myself constantly pondering whether this was a genuine story or mere fiction.

Some of the情节 were so outrageous that they bordered on the unbelievable, yet at the same time, they didn't entirely shock me.

I firmly believe that the portrayal of mental illness in this book is extremely realistic for a vast number of people.

However, it is often a taboo or politically incorrect topic to openly discuss, which is why I truly appreciate the author's honesty.

Nonetheless, at certain points, the book dragged on, and the "intimacy" discussions felt rather unnecessary, cringe-worthy, and a distraction from the main narrative.

These elements unfortunately contributed to my decision to deduct some stars.

Overall, while the book had its strengths in addressing a sensitive issue, it also had its flaws that affected my overall reading experience.

This book provided a great insight into the system and the difficulties that families face when trying to get help for their loved ones with mental illness.

However, the novel itself was rather long-winded and took a while to get to the point. The pacing was slow, which made it a bit of a struggle to get through at times.

The ending was also quite anticlimactic. It felt like there were still many loose ends that were not tied up. I was particularly interested in finding out what happened with Brad and Bethany, as well as what happened with Angelica and how the program had impacted her.

Unfortunately, I felt that we never really got the closure that we needed. While it was good that they finally found a facility for Trina, there were still so many unanswered questions.

The book started off on a low note, then managed to get you excited about what was going to happen next. But in the end, it just brought you back down again. Overall, it was an okay read, but it definitely had its flaws.

I truly loved all those behind the scene details that no one ever talks about when dealing with a loved one who has a mental health issue.

It's like there's a whole hidden world that only those directly involved get to see. The countless hours of worry, the attempts to understand their complex emotions, and the struggle to find the right way to support them.

Sometimes it feels like you're walking on eggshells, not knowing what might set off a bad episode. But at the same time, there are those precious moments of connection and progress that make it all worthwhile.

These details are what make the experience both challenging and deeply rewarding. They shape our understanding of mental health and teach us about patience, empathy, and unconditional love.

It's important to share these stories and bring these hidden details to light, so that others can know they're not alone in their journey.

72 Hour Hold by Bebe Moore Campbell

Published June 28, 2005

In this poignant novel that delves into the themes of family and redemption, a mother finds herself in a desperate struggle. She is determined to rescue her eighteen-year-old daughter from the crippling effects of mental illness. The mother, Keri, forces her daughter, Trina, who suffers from bipolar disorder, to confront her condition.

New York Times best-selling author Bebe Moore Campbell infuses this story with her own powerful emotions and draws on her African-American roots. The result is some of her finest writing to date. Trina's bipolar disorder causes her to be paranoid, wild, and violent. Keri, watching her once-beloved child transform into a strange and unrecognizable being, searches for help through the usual channels. However, she soon realizes that a seventy-two hour hold is the only available assistance when an adult child begins to spiral out of control. After just three days, Trina can sign herself out of any program.

Frustrated with the bureaucracy of the mental health community and resolute in her determination to save her daughter at all costs, Keri opts for an illegal intervention. She turns to a group called The Program, a band of radicals who reject the traditional psychiatric system and model themselves after the Underground Railroad. When Keri entrusts her daughter's fate to them, she embarks on a journey that requires her to summon the spirit of Harriet Tubman for courage. In the turmoil that ensues, she is compelled to face a past that refuses to remain hidden, even as she wages a fierce battle to secure a future for her child.

Bebe Moore Campbell's moving story is a testament to the human spirit. It speaks to anyone who has ever been confronted with seemingly insurmountable obstacles and has prayed for a happy ending, only to discover that the fight must be waged from within.

The article is probably longer than it needed to be.

However, I just have an intense love for her writing.

Her words have a certain charm that draws me in and makes me unable to put it down.

The story she tells is also extremely beautiful.

It unfolds in a way that captivates the reader's imagination and takes them on a wonderful journey.

Every detail is carefully crafted, and the characters come to life on the page.

I find myself completely immersed in the story, feeling every emotion that the characters experience.

Even though it may be a bit longer than necessary, it is well worth it for the pleasure and enjoyment that it brings.

I will continue to read her work with great enthusiasm and look forward to more beautiful stories in the future.
