Although this may not be the most exquisitely written novel, it is a book that everyone should read.

It truly provides a vivid portrayal of the arduous battle that loved ones undertake while caring for those afflicted with mental disorders. The frustration they experience and the cumbersome red tape they have to navigate through are palpable.

I earnestly wish that people would take the time to read this and other relevant books before expressing their opinions on mental health.

In America, where the use of prescription drugs (RX) is alarmingly high and the suicide rate among veterans averages a staggering 30 per day, we desperately need to have a serious and in-depth discussion about mental health.

It is a topic that demands our attention and understanding, and books like this can serve as an important catalyst for that much-needed conversation.

This was recommended to me a while ago and I never got around to reading it until now.

Upon finally delving into it, I was truly amazed at how much I learned about mental health that I had previously been unaware of.

The book provided a wealth of valuable information and insights that have broadened my understanding of this crucial topic.

However, I must admit that it had its drawbacks. At times, it was rather wordy, which made it a bit of a struggle to maintain my focus.

Nevertheless, despite these minor flaws, I still believe it is a good read overall.

I would rate it 4 stars out of 5, as it offered a great deal of useful knowledge and made me think deeply about mental health issues.

I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about this important subject.

72 Hour Hold offers readers a deeply harrowing exploration of mental illness. Through the perspective of a mother, the story unfolds as her once-idyllic life is brutally shattered when her daughter succumbs to bipolar disorder. The book is a grim yet utterly riveting read. At times, it can be excruciatingly painful to go through the pages, but its grip is so strong that it becomes impossible to put down. Campbell, a renowned bestselling novelist, writes with the authenticity that comes from personal experience. A member of her own family battles with a mental illness, and she has actively contributed by helping to form a support group in Los Angeles. It is a sad truth that African-Americans bear the brunt of mental illness more severely. This is not only because they are more prone to misdiagnosis compared to whites but also because a significant portion of their own community is reluctant to recognize and address their suffering. Campbell astutely likens mental illness to slavery, an analogy that most critics have found to be highly appropriate and thought-provoking.

72 Hour Hold is a story that delves into the intense struggles of Keri as she copes with her bipolar daughter, Trina.

For me, the narrative felt rather drawn out. While I understand the intention of engaging the reader, certain parts seemed to be nothing more than rambling. The repetition in some sections became quite boring.

Keri refuses to accept that her daughter is ill, which leads her on an emotional rollercoaster. She experiences denial, fear, anger, and even resorts to illegal means in an attempt to obtain help for Trina.

Even by the end of the story, I still don't believe that Keri has fully come to terms with her daughter's mental illness.

There were moments when I found myself eagerly wondering what would happen next, but there were also times when I felt bored. This was my first encounter with a book by Bebe Moore Campbell.

I can't say that I would never read anything else by her, but I can say that through this book, I gained an understanding of the challenges that a loved one faces when dealing with a person who has a mental illness.

It made me realize the complexity and emotional turmoil that such a situation can bring.

Overall, while 72 Hour Hold had its flaws, it also provided some valuable insights.

Keri's 18-year-old daughter, Trina, has received a diagnosis of Bipolar disorder.

This is the account of how Keri endeavors to cope and assist her daughter through this challenging illness. Keri is actively engaged in the pursuit of a suitable "solution" to support her daughter and enable her to regain her life.

Trina was enrolled at Brown University when the diagnosis was made. However, what Keri is unaware of is that Trina might never return to being the same person she was prior to the diagnosis.

Bebe Moore Campbell is one of my most beloved authors, and I deeply miss her!

It is a difficult journey for Keri and her daughter, but with determination and love, they are striving to navigate through this illness and find a way forward.

The impact of Bipolar disorder on a person's life can be profound, and it is essential to have the right support and resources to manage it effectively.

Keri's efforts to help her daughter are truly admirable, and I hope that they will find the strength and courage to overcome this obstacle together.

I had the opportunity to learn about bi-polar disorder in a rather unique way. It didn't feel like the typical learning experience where you are bombarded with facts and figures. Instead, it was a more organic and engaging process. What really caught my attention was the concept of an underground railroad for the alternative treatment of bi-polar disorder. This idea of a hidden network or system that provides alternative methods of treatment is truly fascinating. It makes me wonder about the possibilities and the potential benefits that could come from such an approach. I am eager to learn more about this underground railroad and how it might be able to help those suffering from bi-polar disorder.

A rough story. Campbell is an extremely talented writer. His works have the remarkable ability to draw readers into a story, making them feel as if they are actually a part of it, even when the setting is completely outside their personal experience.

This particular story is a complex blend of emotions. It is both scary and sad, yet at the same time, it is also inspiring. The central theme of the story revolves around a mother's unwavering determination to help her child. In the face of numerous difficulties and challenges, the mother refuses to give up. Her love and determination drive her to do whatever it takes to ensure the well-being of her child.

This story serves as a powerful reminder of the strength of a mother's love and the lengths she will go to protect and care for her child. It shows that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope and the possibility of a better future. Campbell's masterful storytelling brings this message to life in a way that is both engaging and thought-provoking.

Damn that was intense. It felt like I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The action was non-stop, and every moment had me on the verge of biting my nails. The story was so engaging that I couldn't put it down. I found myself completely immersed in the world that the author had created. The characters were well-developed and their emotions were palpable. I could feel their pain, their joy, and their determination. It was truly a remarkable experience. Bebe Moore Campbell penned the novel "72 Hour Hold" drawing inspiration from her own experiences as she strived to support her daughter.

Just let that thought sink in for a moment. I'm certain that this was an extremely arduous story to pen. As a mother, the innate instinct is to care for and safeguard one's child. However, there were instances when Keri was unable to do either for Trina.

Despite the challenges and difficulties, Keri never abandoned her daughter. It's a profoundly touching and revealing narrative that delves into the complex issue of dealing with loved ones who are grappling with mental illness.

This story not only sheds light on the struggles faced by the individual with mental illness but also on the emotional turmoil and unwavering dedication of the caregiver. It serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding, patience, and love in such situations.

Overall, "72 Hour Hold" is a powerful and poignant novel that offers valuable insights into the human experience of dealing with mental illness within the context of family.

I can't imagine anything worse than watching your grown child self-destruct over and over and be powerless to do anything to help.

It is truly a heart-wrenching experience. You see them making bad choices, engaging in self-destructive behaviors, and yet, no matter how hard you try, you seem unable to stop the downward spiral.

As a parent, you have always wanted the best for your child. You have nurtured them, guided them, and loved them unconditionally. But now, as they face these challenges on their own, you feel a sense of helplessness and frustration.

You may wonder what you could have done differently, if there was something more you could have said or done to prevent this from happening. But the truth is, sometimes, we have no control over the choices our children make.

All we can do is be there for them, offer our support and love, and hope that they will find their way back to a healthy and fulfilling life.

‘72 Hour Hold’ is a remarkable novel that delves deep into the complex challenges of mental illness and its profound impact on the families of the afflicted.

The story centers around a mother whose daughter battles with bipolar disorder. Throughout the narrative, the main character endeavors to navigate the often perplexing mental care system, all in an attempt to provide her child with the best possible care.

I purchased this book quite some time ago, under the impression that it was a memoir. Although it isn't, the way the events unfold and the narrative style bear a resemblance to that of typical memoirs. It is extremely detailed, and the characters are so vividly portrayed that I frequently had to remind myself that it was a fictional tale. However, the fact that it is fiction does not detract from the reality that the events described in this story may very well be happening in the lives of many.

I found this novel to offer an interesting perspective on mental illness. The majority of books I have read on this topic have taken the viewpoint of the person suffering from the illness. In contrast, this story gives us an insight into how a mental illness not only affects the individual but also those who care deeply about them. It also explores the flaws within the system and how people can easily fall through the cracks.

The desperation of the mother in this book is palpable and almost painful to read. She not only has to come to terms with the fact that her daughter is different but also feels a sense of independence, believing that she must fight alone for her daughter's well-being.

While I recognize that ‘72 Hour Hold’ is a good book, I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. It contains an abundance of details about things that I felt were not entirely relevant, and although this helps to humanize the main character, I thought it was perhaps a bit excessive. Nevertheless, if you are seeking a thought-provoking book that examines the impact of mental illness on families, then this is definitely a book worth reading.
