One of my very first collections of poetry was this one.

It holds a special place in my heart.

The collection is filled with beautiful and thought-provoking poems that have the power to touch the soul.

One particular poem that stands out is "The Reckoning".

It takes the reader on a journey of self-reflection and exploration.

The words are carefully chosen and arranged, creating a vivid and engaging imagery.

To read "The Reckoning", you can visit the following link: http://gawow.com/roethke/poems/28.html.

I highly recommend it to anyone who has a love for poetry and a desire to explore the depths of the human experience.

Give it a read and let the words wash over you.

You might just discover something new about yourself.

I found that I liked the later work somewhat better. In fact, it had a certain charm that was truly haunting. There were times when it reached a level that could even be described as terrifying. But strangely enough, I still liked it. The way it managed to evoke such strong emotions within me was quite remarkable. It was as if it had a hold on my imagination, pulling me in and making me unable to look away. I think what appealed to me the most was its ability to create an atmosphere that was both eerie and captivating. Even though it sometimes made my heart race and sent shivers down my spine, I couldn't help but be drawn to it. It was a unique experience that I will not soon forget.

I first encountered Theodore Roethke's poem "Elegy for Jane" during my high school creative writing class, and I was immediately smitten. I found it to be deeply moving and poignant. So, when I recently heard Roethke's name mentioned, it jogged my memory, and I thought I should explore more of his work.

However, to my great disappointment, I have to say that he really disappoints. Sadly, I have a general bias against poetry, although I usually make a sincere effort to be open-minded and even try to like it. In this case, I approached his collection with an open heart, hoping to discover more poems that would resonate with me. But, oh my, what a jumble of words this collection turned out to be. It's filled with a whole lot of senseless drivel and nothing of substance, with only the very, very occasional one-liner or concept that might prompt a moment of contemplation. The entire book followed this pattern, and it didn't take me long to figure it out. Nevertheless, I stubbornly continued reading, naively hoping that just one more poem would be worth my time. Alas, that hope was in vain.

I suppose the time is right to admit that I had a secret, blazing love affair with Theodore Roethke when I was a student.

He was like a mysterious figure who walked into my life and changed it forever. He showed me bird's tongue orchids, which seemed to hold the secrets of the world within their delicate petals. He gave me dreams of death, which made me think about the meaning and fragility of life. And he taught me the inexorable sadness of pencils, as if each mark on the paper carried a weight of emotion.

Theo's been dead since 1963, and my lit profs will be of too advanced an age to be much bothered by my admission. But for me, after all these years, his voice still jars me like the shattering of a clay flower pot. It brings back memories that are both painful and beautiful.

Our worst moment was when I discovered the phonetic spelling of his surname. I'd been saying it wrong for years, but he had never corrected me. The discovery and the embarrassment of it made me burn like an old house in a far field. It was a moment of realization that I had not known him as well as I thought I did. But even so, our love affair remains a part of me, a secret that I carry with pride and a touch of sadness.

Do I like the bulk? I must say no.

However, I do wish that the truth were otherwise. The concept of bulk often brings to mind images of large, cumbersome quantities that can be overwhelming and difficult to manage. It may seem inefficient and wasteful to have so much of something all at once.

Yet, there are times when the idea of bulk can have its advantages. For example, buying in bulk can sometimes lead to significant cost savings. It can also be convenient to have a large supply of essential items on hand, especially in times of need.

Despite these potential benefits, my initial reaction remains one of aversion to the bulk. Perhaps it is because I prefer a more streamlined and minimalist approach to life. I like to have only what I need, and no more.

Nevertheless, I recognize that there may be situations where embracing the bulk could be the better option. It all depends on the context and the specific circumstances. So, while I may not like the bulk in general, I am open to the possibility that it could have its uses in certain situations.

One of my "desert island" books is truly special.

I once owned three copies of it because I had the habit of loaning it out to my friends. However, they often took an extremely long time to return it.

The entire book is filled with wonder and beauty. Every page seems to transport me to a different world.

Among all the wonderful contents, the poems from "The Lost Son" collection are my absolute favorites. These poems have a unique charm and power that touch my heart deeply.

The words flow like a gentle stream, carrying emotions and images that stay with me long after I have finished reading.

Each poem in this collection is like a precious gem, shining with its own unique light and offering a different perspective on life, love, and loss.

I find myself constantly coming back to these poems, seeking comfort, inspiration, and a deeper understanding of the human experience.

This book, with its "The Lost Son" collection, is truly a treasure that I would never want to be without.

Roethke's poems span a remarkable range.

On one hand, there are those that are saccharin, perhaps overly sweet and sentimental. Then there are the soulful ones that touch the very core of our being.

The bizarre poems take us on strange and unexpected journeys, while the lewd ones push the boundaries of what is considered appropriate.

He also has socially-acceptable form adherent verses that follow the traditional rules of poetry, as well as freeform, beautiful nonsense that defies categorization.

There is truly a poem for every emotion, experience, and whim. This near complete collection is excellent, as it offers a comprehensive look at Roethke's diverse body of work.

It has the potential to reach a wide audience, appealing to those who appreciate different styles and themes in poetry.

Whether you are in the mood for something sweet, soulful, strange, or just plain beautiful, Roethke's poems have something to offer.

Amazing! This writer is truly remarkable. They have an uncanny ability to create stories that are deeply rooted in the human experience and centered around the earth. Their words seem to flow effortlessly, painting vivid pictures in the reader's mind. It's as if they have a special connection to both humanity and the natural world.

Every sentence they write feels like a piece of art, carefully crafted to evoke emotions and make the reader think. Their work is not only entertaining but also thought-provoking, challenging us to look at the world from a different perspective.

It's rare to come across a writer who can combine such a unique blend of human and earth-centered themes. Their writing is a breath of fresh air in a world full of chaos and confusion. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

The sentence "which is the way I turn to go, as a man turns to face oncoming snow" holds a certain depth and mystery. It implies a sense of determination and perhaps a bit of resignation.

One can imagine a person standing at a crossroads, metaphorically speaking, and choosing a path that is not necessarily the easiest or the most obvious. Just as a man would bravely turn to face the oncoming snow, this individual is ready to confront whatever lies ahead.

It could suggest that the journey ahead may be challenging, filled with obstacles and uncertainties, much like the harshness of the snow. But instead of shying away, the person is choosing to embrace it and move forward.

This sentence also evokes a sense of solitude and self-reliance. The man facing the snow is alone, relying only on himself to make his way through. Similarly, the person in the sentence is making a choice that is unique to them, following their own path in life.

Overall, this simple yet powerful sentence can inspire us to be勇敢 in the face of challenges, to trust in ourselves, and to have the courage to follow our own hearts.
