Roth's journey as a writer is an interesting one. In The Great American Novel (** 1/2 out of 5), read in July 2019, he seems to be still searching for his proper subject. Then, in My Life as a Man (*** 1/2 out of 5), read in November 2020, he starts to find it and makes some progress. Finally, in The Professor of Desire (**** out of 5), read in February 2022, he hones his craft and presents a more refined work.

In light of the incredible works that were yet to come, such as the Zuckerman novels, the American trilogy, and the short autumnal works that ended his career, it's easy to overlook these three books. However, there is actually a great deal of value and wonder to be found within them, especially in the latter two. These early works show Roth's growth and development as a writer, and they offer a glimpse into the mind of a literary genius in the making.

There is no raw meat fucking in any of these three novels.

This statement implies that the content within these three literary works does not involve such vulgar and inappropriate descriptions.

Novels are a form of art that can explore various themes and emotions, but they should also maintain a certain level of decency and respect for the readers.

By excluding such explicit and offensive elements, the authors of these novels are likely aiming to create a more refined and engaging reading experience.

It allows the readers to focus on the plot, character development, and the overall message that the novels convey.

This approach can attract a wider audience and contribute to the literary value and popularity of the works.

In conclusion, the absence of raw meat fucking in these three novels is a positive aspect that enhances their quality and appeal.

The two shorter books at the end play a crucial role in rescuing this volume from being completely bogged down by the first book's tiresome and overbearing style.

The first book, with its rather monotonous and overbearing approach, could have potentially made the entire volume a dull read. However, the addition of these two shorter books brings a refreshing change.

They offer different perspectives, perhaps more engaging storylines, or a lighter tone that alleviates the heaviness imposed by the initial book.

This balance is essential in maintaining the reader's interest and preventing the volume from becoming a chore to get through.

It shows that even in a collection where one part may have its drawbacks, the overall experience can be enhanced by the presence of other elements that counteract those negatives.

In this case, the two shorter books serve as a welcome relief and add value to the entire volume.
