Interesting.

I didn't expect to actually like short stories. Before, I had always thought that short stories couldn't fully develop the plot and characters like long novels. However, after reading some of Hulmes' short stories, my view has completely changed. At least I like Hulmes a lot.

Hulmes' short stories are concise yet profound. He can use just a few words to create a vivid scene and bring the characters to life. The plots of his stories are often unexpected, which keeps the reader engaged until the very end. Moreover, his writing style is unique, with a certain sense of humor and irony that makes the stories even more interesting.

In conclusion, I am really glad that I discovered Hulmes' short stories. They have opened up a new world for me and made me realize that short stories can also be very wonderful.

I started to read the book with great anticipation. However, after just 30 pages, I had to give up. The reason was that I simply could not interpret the messages the author was trying to convey. The text seemed so complex and convoluted that it left me completely confused. I found myself rereading the same sentences over and over again, hoping to make some sense of it all, but to no avail. It was as if the author was using a language that was foreign to me. I was disappointed as I had been looking forward to delving into the story and understanding its deeper meaning. But unfortunately, it was just not meant to be. Maybe I will give it another try at a later time, when my mind is more open and receptive to such challenging literature.

Ugh,

someone once said about Jia Tolentino, and I find myself having the exact same sentiment when it comes to Keri Hulme.

Keri Hulme's writing is so captivating and unique that I truly believe I would read her shopping lists if she were to let me.

Her works have this magical quality that draws you in and keeps you hooked from the very first word.

Whether it's her vivid descriptions, complex characters, or thought-provoking storylines, there is something about her writing that speaks to the deepest parts of my soul.

I can't get enough of it, and I'm always eager to see what she comes up with next.

It's rare to find an author who can have such an impact on you, but Keri Hulme is definitely one of them.

Where have we come from and where are we going? These are the profound questions that Keri Hulme poses in this remarkable collection. It commences with a story envisioning a future that is uncannily accurate for the coastal inhabitants of Aotearoa New Zealand and other island regions currently witnessing the rising sea levels. Many of the stories in this collection explore various aspects of New Zealand's pre- and post-colonial past, as well as futuristic conceptions. They are liberally sprinkled with Hulme's distinctive wordplay and transitional prose-poetry. The collection concludes with reflections on Aotearoa's past. The sea and its life forms lie at the heart of numerous stories, just as they were central to Hulme's own life. She appears to be intimating that the sea is the origin from which this island nation emerged and to which it will ultimately return. I wholeheartedly relished reading this work. It is so ingenious and playful, and I truly wish that Hulme were still among us to bestow more of her literary treasures upon us.

I have a profound love for her writing style. It truly captivates my heart and imagination. I have a particular penchant for magical realism, and she seems to master this genre with great finesse. Her use of words is simply remarkable. She weaves them together in such a way that they come alive on the page, painting vivid pictures and creating a world that is both enchanting and believable.

Every time I pick up one of her works, I am immediately drawn into her literary universe. The way she combines the ordinary with the extraordinary, the real with the magical, is a testament to her great talent. Her words have the power to transport me to different places and make me feel a whole range of emotions.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that she is an outstanding writer. Her writing style is a unique blend of magical realism and beautiful language, and I look forward to reading more of her works in the future.
