An above average horror romp by a writer who was just beginning to find his footing. The story is chock full of clichés, and there is a tendency to repeat words incessantly. It seems as if the author can't break free from using the same words over and over and over and over..... again. However, despite these flaws, there is still a great deal of fun to be had here. The horror elements are engaging and manage to create a sense of unease and suspense. The characters are somewhat stereotypical, but they still manage to draw the reader in. Overall, it is well worth a read for those who enjoy horror stories, even if it does have its shortcomings.
Great book for old-school horror fans!
I'm biased though because I love Robert McCammon and stories about a family moving to a small town where progressively creepy things happen.
This particular book by McCammon is a real treat for those who enjoy the classic horror genre. The author has a talent for creating an atmosphere of unease and mystery that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat from start to finish.
The story follows a family as they relocate to a seemingly idyllic small town. However, as they settle in, they begin to notice strange and disturbing occurrences. The descriptions of these events are vivid and detailed, making it easy for the reader to imagine themselves in the characters' shoes and feel the same sense of dread and fear.
McCammon's writing style is engaging and accessible, making this book a great choice for both seasoned horror fans and those new to the genre. Whether you're looking for a thrilling read to keep you entertained on a rainy day or a spine-tingling adventure to share with friends, this book is definitely worth checking out.
