One of my absolute favorite books that I have ever had the pleasure of reading is truly a remarkable piece of literature. It has most definitely earned its place on my top 10 books of the year list.

To be honest, it is simply great. I am really at a loss for words when trying to describe its essence. This book not only delves into his time in Vietnam but also explores much more, such as his relationship with his father and ex. The chapters are like captivating mini short-stories that are incredibly moving and emotionally resonant. They truly blew me away and left a lasting impression.

However, if I were to pick a small bone, there are a few instances where he seems to fall into the "Vietnamese are children trope." But I think Wolff is a master of irony. He is honest in a way that allows the reader to understand how he is disagreeing with his earlier convictions. There is one moment in the story where, in my opinion, this irony doesn't quite land as effectively as it could. But aside from that minor flaw, this is just a breathtaking and honest collection that easily deserves a 5-star rating.

This is a truly remarkable memoir that I initially mistook for a novel.

A friend had highly recommended it, and I dove right into reading it on my Kindle without bothering to read the blurb or editorial review.

The memoir tells the story of the narrator's life, his decision to enlist, and his experiences in Vietnam with great humility.

What makes this memoir so engaging is its honesty, self-deprecating humor, and the author's willingness to lay bare his flaws and vulnerabilities.

I thoroughly enjoyed taking this journey through the author's point of view, as he is brutally honest about himself, which allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam.

The writing is fantastic, and I found myself highlighting numerous passages.

The descriptions are vivid and detailed, and the author does an excellent job of showing the reader his friendships, making them feel real and palpable.

There is no emotional manipulation here, just a straightforward and compelling account of one man's experiences.

This is a fast read that will keep you engaged from start to finish.

Overall, I highly recommend this memoir to anyone interested in learning more about Vietnam or simply looking for a well-written and engaging read.
